GCB Cocoa has organized many blood donation drives for Sultanah Aminah Hospital since 2015 to encourage our staff to contribute to the needs in our society and alleviate the inadequate blood supply in the hospital. In 2019, a record number of 66 GCB Cocoa employees took part in the blood donation campaign. This was more than the 53 employees who participated in the 2018 blood donation campaign.

Located in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, Sultanah Aminah Hospital is the largest hospital in Johor and is the main referral and tertiary centre for Johor. Having adequate blood supply at all times is crucial in the hospital as it enables Sultanah Aminah Hospital to treat emergency patients, patients undergoing major surgeries, cancer patients and more. In particular, the hospital needs to intensify blood donation campaigns before the festive season and school holidays, where blood supplies tend to drop below safe levels.

On October 23-24 2019, GCB attended the 2019 World Cocoa Foundation (WCF) Partnership Meeting in Berlin, Germany, alongside sustainability experts, cocoa and chocolate company representatives, government officials and more.

The meeting explored three drivers of change:

Effective stakeholder collaboration and partnerships;   Strong business and policy environment; and  Public private investment in science, innovation and learning

Our GCB Cocoa employees visited Darul Hanan Orphanage in December 2018 where we donated daily necessities, cleaned the facilities, and engaged the children there in games and activities.

Located in Pasir Gudang, Darul Hanan Orphanage provides a place of refuge for orphans and children from less privileged backgrounds to receive a good education, and inculcates in them the values of friendship and family in a caring environment.

‘Darul Hanan’ means ‘House of Love’. Darul Hanan Orphanage relies on donations from the community around Pasir Gudang to support the children in their care and provide them a better life. As part of the Pasir Gudang community, we believe that we have the ability and the responsibility to support the children and staff at the Orphanage with our skills and resources.

In November 2017, 40 GCB Cocoa employees participated in the Johor Port Shipping and Forwarding Association Charity Run under the GCB Cocoa company banner.

The proceeds of the run went to 2 local charities for children: Pertubuhan Kebajikan Fitrah Qaseh, a shelter home that houses about 40 abused and homeless children; and Persatuan Kebajikan Orang Kurang Upaya Xi Le Er, a charity home taking care of children below the age of 18 with multiple disabilities, such as visual impairment, cerebral palsy, autism and down syndrome, providing the children with therapy, classroom lessons, and supporting their medical needs.
