The Cocoa Problem

Rapid population growth and rising demand for chocolate have put a strain on cocoa bean supplies. Exacerbated by low yields, rapid deforestation and climate change, the limited suitable land available for growing cocoa is a cause for concern not just for the cocoa industry, but for the livelihoods of farmers.

A Recognised Priority

In order to safeguard the future of cocoa, we have continuously contributed to sustainability in our supply chain by incentivizing suppliers who can offer cocoa beans that are certified (such as UTZ and Rainforest Alliance) and sourced from sustainably managed farms. This ensures that we can provide our customers with certified, sustainable cocoa products. We will continue to require ongoing certification for both our existing facilities and our new greenfield facility in Cote d’Ivoire.

We also ensure that all our employees and suppliers comply with our Code of Conduct, which outlines our commitment to safeguard fair labor practices and environmental protection across our supply chain. Our cocoa bean assurance team is committed to conducting verification audits for at least three suppliers per year in each region - namely Asia, America, and Africa - to ensure that our suppliers stay in compliance with our Code of Conduct.
